Cheers HWF NOW HAS ITS VERY OWN YOUTUBE VIDEO CHANNEL! Cheers

David H. has been lobbying for a place to store HWF videos that are posted on the forum so they can be easily accessed and retrieved whenever they are needed.

YOU CAN HELP with this project BY UPLOADING YOUR VIDEOS and storing them ON THE HWF CHANNEL in one of two ways:

1. Ask for one of our volunteers to help you or / to upload the video for you OR

2. Upload the video yourself by simply requesting the password for access to the HWF YouTube channel by e-mailing:

I just received the newsletter from Libby and thought everyone might enjoy the latest news regarding Mbuso and when next season will be begin.

WHAT’S HAPPENING AT
ROODEKRANS

A NEWS PAGE FOR SUPPORTERS

December 2011

The adults have taken Mbuso out of the natal area, much to his distress. This is normal
behavior for the adults to chase him out of the immediate breeding territory, although the
young eagle will try to return with the adult bird chasing him out again. This will continue for
a month or so until Mbuso realizes that he must find a small territory of his own to hunt for
his own survival.

The adult eagles will then have a rest period before the next breeding season, which will start
late in February with the refurbishing of the nest. During this time the adults are may not be
in the garden and may only return to roost early in the evening so sightings of them become
sporadic.

All in all it has been a hard year for the project with a definite drop in
donations this year. Unfortunately, I have been very ill and have been
unable to do as much of the work as before so therefore it was not
attended to. Fortunately I am on the mend now and am gradually catching
up with the back log. The good news is we had a successful breeding
year with the eagles finding plenty of prey to support themselves.

Thanks to Computershare the information board in the garden has been
given a face lift and is looking rather smart now, with two new decals
printed front and back.

We have some exciting fund raisers happing next year and I hope some
of you will come along and support us in the botanical garden.

Firstly, we will be having a Valentine’s Moonlight Picnic in the garden
on the 14
th
February 2012. Pack a picnic basket, bring a blanket and
join us for a evening of romantic music in the Walter Sisulu
Botanical Garden gates open at 6 o’clock and it’s R150.00 per
couple. Candles will be on sale. All funds in aid of the Black Eagle
Project Roodekrans. This event will be arrange by Tony Yoko who is
renowned for the Sappi concerts – so come along and join us!! We
would also like to thank Tony for his efforts which he gives free of charge.

Secondly, brought back by public demand “The Bafana Story”. Yes we are going to put this
on in May next year so keep your eyes peeled for the exact date and when booking opens.

We are trying to get a sponsor for the camera but so far no
luck. If we do not get a sponsor we will service this camera
and just carry on with this one for the time being.
The camera will only be switched back on in March/April
2012.

Thank you to all our sponsor for their support this year
we are very grateful to you all and wish all our
supporters Happy Christmas and prosperous New
Year from Tulane, Emoyeni and all at the Black
Eagle Project.

Kind regards
Libby Woodcock
Project Coordinator
