11:27AM Emoyeni is watching something and looks awfully curious about whatever it is. Not curious to get off the egg and check it out though! Laugh

12:11PM Emoyeni was up fussing with the nest (maybe doing an egg roll?) and doing a bit of preening. The nest bowl is so far back and deep, I wonder if we'll ever get a view of the egg before it hatches. Puzzled

12:15PM Emoyeni is now settled back on the nest and looking around. I'm not sure if she sees another bird or what above, but she sure is looking up alot! Wish the cam had sound also. A deep sigh

12:17PM She's up and off the nest.

ETA...

OK, I'm Out to get my day started. Hello

Thanks so much Nightowl for your answer. I tried again last night at 1 am so 7 am there and the WCOD was in full action and I said, "nope, I'm outta here" so I have no shots or notes to add from then. I must say with todays cameras and views getting better and better, everybody better step up their game or be left behind

Not sure how much I'll be around this season, time will tell

here's a shot from right now and it's very grainy looking and hard on my already shot eyes, not to mention blurry, which is a no-go with vertigo so I won't be able to watch it much

Wanted to say also that when I read your update you brought from FB with them hoping for a second egg I was baffled. If there is one I definately won't be turning it on to watch it be killed

Great to see you back Judy Wub

Hi Lori! Hello

I agree with you on all points. I have turned the cam on to see nothing but a blurry bird on the nest...like it's extremely out of focus.

I'm not sure who Tanya Becker is, but yes, I was taken aback somewhat when she said they were hoping for 2 eggs this year. My guess is she doesn't know the inborn traits of the chicklets to kill a younger one. Not to mention the adults all but ignore it. Sad I still say alot of people think these eagles are like Bald Eagles, and they're not in alot of aspects.

Yep, I'm hoping for one healthy chick...only! Nodding

Alrighty, here's the latest update from Facebook.

Bo van der Lecq

Well done Mr & Mrs Verreaux's!
Making a quick calculation:
1st laid 17/04 followed by the 2nd laid 21/04
1st hatching 31/05 followed by the 2nd hatching 4/06 with Cainism ending by 7/06.
Approx. 98 days on the nest the juvenile may fledge on about 6/09/2011.
Spending 2-3 months in its natal home range it may leave by about end November early December.

I guess I missed the second egg laying too. I was so hoping for only one egg.

I did too Nightowl but I'm thankful for your update as now I know when I won't be watching till! Thanks for that love

I agree also that these eagles are very little like our Bald Eagles, I even seen fear between the parents last season. With our pairs you can see the trust between them, I didn't see that same thing once with these ones. The sweet chick was similar though in it's behaviors and tons of fun to watch when he got going

here's video I did of him last year doing his early morning workout hug

Thanks for the video Lori! Grin I'd forgotten how cute Bafana's white pantaloons were. Wub

Well....when that second egg hatches, I don't think I'll be able to watch either. Sad I think what I'll do is check FB for updates then. When all is said and done (and nothing leftover in the nest) I'll watch the remaining chicklet grow up. Nodding This is the part of nature I find hard to stomach.

I still don't know how they know there's 2 eggs, unless someone was watching the cam and saw her lay them. DUH...I guess that's how. Whistling

12:42PM Emoyeni is on the nest looking up at something again and incubating the eggs.

For cryin' out loud! Her eyes look crossed in my s'cap. Roll eyes They're not...trust me.

1:37PM Darn! Thulani made a visit to the nest and I missed the s'cap! Sad That's the first time I've seen him on the nest this season. Emoyeni is still incubating and barely paid any attention to Thulani.

ETA...

Oh...wait...maybe there was a switch and I missed that too! Don't Know
