hahaa Lil! not quite what I said when I first seen it....isn't this something. The whole animal kingdom has gone wild this year. Well the birds have anyway. Nanc and I felt pretty strong that Rudy feel but who knows huh?

Mornin' Nanc! great to see you're up and at it and omgggg you got all 3 again! no way...what the? I must go get Linda (Jazzel) and get her to come here and give us some feedback

That middle one looks like Rudy and the thing is when they stand on the sides like that it throws off the size perception for me. I noticed that a few days back when ma and pa were there. I thought huh, I didn't think he was 'that' much smaller. But it was just where they were standing

I was thinking I'll start our date and weather when we start seeing egg laying behavior. Do we all agree with that?

Hi {{{{{{{Lori, LilLori & Nanc}}}}}}}
Good to see all three back again today. Great pics Nanc, & I thought the same thing
yesterday that the two that stood in the nest looked like they might be last years young
ones. It could have been the lighting but they looked darker than the one that stood on
the outer rim and they also looked much smaller. I agree with you Lori, If I remember
correctly, I think the one with the double markings on it's head looks very much like Rudy.
I must go back and see if I can find some pics from last season.
Hope you had a great time with your family, Nanc.
Big Hugs to you all

I've been watching this threesome, very unusual and interesting.

There is no way to tell the ages of the ospreys. An osprey fledged last season will have adult feathers and eye color.

It's very unusual for a juvenile to return to it's natal nesting area in it's first year. That said, Roy Dennis,(England) did document 2 ospreys returning in their first year.

I've seen three ospreys on a nest...but not for long... It's hard to believe there's no stress or fighting.

Ospreys don't migrate together, so if this third osprey is one of the young from last season, it didn't follow adults back. It would very likely be a juvenile male. Males return close to their natal nest, females settle down in area's further away, keeping the gene pool healthy.

The osprey with the heavy neckless is a female, the other two I haven't seen good front views.

Has anyone documented mating? How often?

This is very, very, very interesting. If the behavior continues over the weekend, I'll email Rob Bierregaard and Allen Poole, to see what they think.
