Those necks are amazing, Mary! I think it's a matter of perspective as it's more noticeable on some nests!

This isn't the best s'cap for it, but I'm noticing today that not only is #1 a lot bigger, she's also beginning to get the scruffy look that comes with the heavier down.

#1 is two weeks old today.
#2 was one week old late yesterday afternoon
#3 was one week old early this morning

Definitely a very different pattern than most 3-chick nests (and probably the result of egg #1 having spent several weeks in an incubator - it was removed from the nest shortly after being laid because of a tornado watch, and not returned until shortly before it was due to hatch).

I did remember that the first egg had been removed for a while. It has to have something to do with the week difference in hatch dates and the huge difference in their sizes. At least they all seem to get along quite well from my observations anyway


About 4:45 EDT......Big wings from Independence as she carefully gets up off the chicks..

Mumbrella had to get up to change positions. I think all of the littles were getting away from her. We seem to have a new pile of greenery...good!

I'm finally connected to the net again so I will finish posting today's scaps. Hope Time Warner works it out!!

You're right JudyB. The oldest chick's darker coloring is evident in this scap.

Chicks are growing It's so hard to see them with the light and all the things on the nest.
Oldest one is more visible now that she/he getting the darker feathers
