I have Vancouver and Eagles on my brain, last night I dreamt that I was in Vancouver and I was walking around the sea wall, looking for eagles in the rain. When I looked down I realised I was wearing slippers! I think I need a trip out west, and soon!!

If you do.... and would like to share it with us please send it to my email - Debs571@hotmail.com - with the subject heading HWF Screen Capture Contest, no later than noon Sunday - August 26, 2012

Pick your best screen capture as my email only has so much room.

When submitting your screen capture please include the following information:

Your screen name and contact information
In the subject line of your email state that its for the "HWF Screen Capture Contest" so that your email does not go into the junk or spam folder
When your capture was taken and at what Hancock Wildlife Nest (although we will likely be able to tell please include this information)
Images must be JPEG saved and no larger than 500 pixels
The screen capture must be "raw" without any enhancements; text or animations
The nest must be part of the capture

We would also like some screen captures that include some of our famous HWF kids or bobbleheads with or without the parents in the screen capture
and preferably taken when the chicks were just a few days old.

This Screen Capture Contest is for screen captures only no professional pictures this time around.

Although we would love to promote everyone's favorite screen capture ... as they are all "keepers" we can only select a few from this contest, which will then be used in an upcoming promotion so good luck to you all.

We will keep all screen captures on file for future HWF promotions so you never know when your favorite capture may be used in the future.

Thanks for participating and we look forward to seeing your beautiful screen captures!

Hi Judy

They have been back since October 3rd......I didn't post anything as I have been so busy and also wanted to give them some relief from all the photographers for a little while...it is nice to see them back and healthy................they were both on the pole today and I saw the male bringing twigs to the nest........he also sat in the nest for the entire time I was there which was 30 minutes.

Hello Vanier eagle lovers

I have been asked to be the moderator for this nest and I am looking forward to getting to know all of you. My husband and I live just around the corner from the nest across from the totem pole where the Eagles spend a lot of their time. I check the nest at least 4 times a day...rain or shine (mostly rain these days)! I have been watching these Eagles for a few years but only in the last 2 years did I start keeping a regular log on their comings and goings. I am excited about hearing the observations and seeing the great photos of other fans of this nest. I can give you some examples of the Vanier Eagles common behaviour patterns.
1. The male regularly sits in the tree facing the Coastguard station , mom likes to sit facing Granville island or in the middle of the tree. When the female is irritated by photographers or humans she flies to the back
trees by the bicycle path.
2. The male regularly flies to the lower pond in the evening to have a drink and a bath..........I have not seen the female do this very much, although, it is not easy to tell them apart unless they are together.
3. Their favourite places to hang out are the Vancouver museum roof, the pier just west of Kitsilano pool and of course the totem pole. I saw them mate there last year at least twice. The male usually sits on the pole facing south and the female sits facing north. In the two years that I have been documenting their actions I have noticed that they never sit on the pole after the eggs have been laid. The last 2 weeks I have noticed
the male sitting on the pole just as day is breaking.....mom seems to go off on her own at the same time. They come back and forth throughout the day but are always back at the nest before dark. These are just
a few of the observations that we have made, lately I have seen dad bring twigs to the nest on 3 separate occasions so lets hope they raise two healthy eaglets again this year. There is not too much going on at
the nest right now but I will certainly keep you posted on anything interesting that comes up......I also look forward to hearing your comments or anything that you witness while visiting the nest.
