I was driving on the Burrard Street Bridge yesterday Wednesday Feb 8, 2011 and I saw an eagle perched on a branch facing False Creek in the spot where pa Vanier usually is perched so assume it was him. My opinion these are urban eagles and humans nor dogs bother them so they do not stay away because they are threatened. They are territorial and protect their nest yes but they have the whole area to roam from Kitsilano Beach totem pole to the Plantitarium roof and the tall trees next to the Burrard Bridge and Granville Island and above the new bike track and also as far away as Stanley Park....they are not going anywhere as I have been watching them and their nest since 2007 and they don't even get spooked off when the fireworks happen...they are urbanized.

That is fine, I know they are urbanized but last year the juvenille came down and landed beside the trail, I had to run out and stop 2 off leash labs from attacking it, I live a block away so I see what goes on down there all the time......I am sure the female has laid an egg as she is constantly on the nest now.

Thanks for your report about possible incubation activity going on now, Diana, and welcome to HWF!! It's fantastic that we now have a member who lives so close to the Vanier nest and can give us regular updates.

I was down to check out the Vanier nest because it is documented that ma is close by the nest or on the nest tree quite frequently. I took several shots of the nest but I could not see a white head peeking out from the nest or eagle anywhere near the nest tree. I do know they are there though because I saw both of them on the nest tree from a distance last week. To my knowledge I see no incubation going on as yet this season as I took captures of the nest from all angles.

Hi Diane, Judy & Karen we watch a nest (Stalashen Nest in Sechelt) through our telescope daily, in fact numerous times, it's amazing what you can see through a telescope and binoculars.Clapping The Vanier nest certainly does look deep.Grin and it may be difficult when down at the nest tree to see in the nest Judy. I will check back for further updates. Diane, do you have a telescope? If you do you can take pictures through the telescope like I do. The nest we watch is about 1 1/2 miles away from where we live. Unfortunately, we cannot see any eggs deep in the nest but when the chicks get big enough we start to see them moving around.

Happy Sitting eagleSitting eagleEgg Hatch watching friends of this nest.
