Maple Syrup Grandfathers (Sweet Dumplings)

from my Recipezaar collection...

Ingredients

1 cup water
1 3/4 cups maple syrup
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter
3/4 cup milk

Directions

Mix water and maple syrup in a saucepan. Bring to boil and let simmer at a very low heat. Meanwhile, prepare the dough:.

Dough: In a bowl, put flour, baking powder and salt. Add butter and rub with your hands.

Add the milk and stir.

With a spoon, let drop dough by spoonful directly in the boiling syrup.

Cover and let simmer at very low heat for 15 minutes (Do not remove the cover in the 15 minutes).

Apple Pear Crisp
from Pillsbury

Ingredients

3 cups (3 medium) sliced, peeled apples
3 cups (3 medium) sliced, peeled pears
2 tablespoons sugar
4 teaspoons flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon lemon juice
3/4 cup All Purpose or Unbleached Flour
1 cup rolled oats
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup margarine or butter

Directions

Heat oven to 375F. In large bowl, combine apples and pears. In small bowl, combine sugar, 4 teaspoons flour, cinnamon and nutmeg. Sprinkle over fruit; toss well.

Place fruit mixture in ungreased 2-quart casserole; sprinkle with lemon juice.

Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. In medium bowl, combine 3/4 cup flour, rolled oats and brown sugar. Using fork or pastry blender, cut in margarine until mixture is crumbly.

Sprinkle crumb mixture evenly over fruit mixture. Bake at 375F. for 35 to 45 minutes or until golden brown and fruit is tender.
