Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge, Oklahoma - Bald Eagle Cam
http://suttoncenter.org/pages/live_eagle_camera
This camera just went live, so details may change. It's a streaming cam, no sound - and is offline occasionally as they work on it. I can't tell if the two pictures posted below are from different cams or just zoomed/panned a little differently. As of January 22, there's only one cam on their website - but there is space for a second, so this may be another thing we'll learn in time.
The nest is in the Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge, near Vian in eastern Oklahoma, near the Arkansas border. This is the Sutton Center's second nest with a cam (their original nest cam features a pair that nests about 125 miles away, at Sooner Lake in north central Oklahoma). The cam page above currently shows two views of Sooner Lake and one of Sequoyah.
This is the first year that we've watched this pair on camera, so we don't have a lot of history. .
2010-2011 Season:
- cam online: January 21
- eggs laid: approximately December 28 - January 3 (there was an initial picture showing three eggs, and the last one was laid Jan 3; there are currently two eggs)
- hatched: February 1, possibly seen 1:30 pm, confirmed 4:12 pm (~35 days); maybe February 4 (~35 days) - cam was down from midday Feb 3 to morning of Feb 5
- fledged: April 14 (72 days old), April 20 (75 days old)
- last seen: cam struck by lightning April 22 - all eagles OK
- tracking: the younger eaglet was fitted with a GPS monitor April 14 (the older one fledged as the team approached), and can be followed at http://www.suttoncenter.org/pages/eagle_tracking

(s'caps by CAL04 and JudyB)
(Thanks to Alan Jenkins, Assistant Director of the G. M. Sutton Avian Research Center, for the background information)

For those who are interested in the relative location of the two nests, here's a very rough map. The original map is courtesy of Wikipedia.

Hello Sequoyah,
12:30 pm,
Iffy weather today. Mom sits brooding and looking around the area.
