23 days old - 21 days old - 18 days old

May 7 s'cap by Birdsie - relative sizes

Summary:

morning feeding included what looked like part of a rabbit; all were fed, though bigger ones got more

a small bird stopped by the nest and #3 leaped up to peep and even lunge at it - link

When #3 returned to the others after peeping at the little bird, #2 attacked him in a major display of sibling rivalry; this was followed up with a bit of pecking between #1 and #2 (#1 won)

#3 was cautious about approaching at the next feeding (fish), and had a private feeding after the others ate

all well fed by early afternoon, and sleeping - and then another attack by #2 on #3

#3 catches Mom with a poop shot - link

Noted that #3 might have a cut on the head, probably from one of the attacks by #2 - link to pic; it was suggested later that it might also be feathers coming in

Also noted that #3 snuggled up with #1, reminding some of the interactions between the 2010 eaglets, and #1 may have moved in between #2 and #3 to prevent another attack on #3

It appeared as if the chicks wanted to be brooded, and Mom tried - but they didn't fit

May 8 s'cap by anna-holland - big crops (and big beaks)

As of the morning of May 8, the Discussion thread had 7,264 posts and 338,119 views, and the Timeline thread had 2,392 views.

Summary:

#1 and #2 fed the most in the early morning feeding

not sure who was fed at the next feeding, but all appeared to have reasonably full crops afterwards

adult spent some time perched of a wobbly branch at the back of the nest - perhaps showing the eaglets where they can branch?

prey today included at least one more baby heron

by mid afternoon #1 and #2 were well fed but #3 had only had a few bites

more rivalry, mostly #2 beating up on #3

#3 got more at the late afternoon feedings

Noted that there may be pin feathers visible on the edges of #1's wings

[Note - I'd like to thank anna-holland for the daily videos - I know a lot of work goes into them, and they're a marvelous summary of each day's activities love ~JudyB]

May 9 s'cap by anna-holland - note the feathers at the edge of the wing! (I think this is #1)

Summary:

#1 and #2 got most of the food at first reported feeding

noted that #3 was calling to adult in the tree and adult was answering - link

Seemed like a lot of rivalry today, and #1 was back to pecking both of the others into submission so she could get most of the food; #2 got some, but #3 had a rather bad day

26 days old - 24 days old - 21 days old

May 10 s'cap by Eagle lovers fro - #3 showing off big crop at end of day

Summary:

#3 is three weeks old today

#1 slept outside, next to the adult, while #2 & #3 were brooded - link

first reported feeding, #1 got a lot, #2 got 4-5 pieces, #3 got 2 pieces

a couple of poop shots by #3 were noted, suggesting he is doing OK for now

1 pm feeding - #1 got most, #2 and #3 got a few bites each

more rivalry, generally by #2 against #3, occasionally stopped by #1

quite a lot of concern expressed about the attacks on #3 and how little food he's getting

it looks as if #3 is learning to slip into the other side of the adult and sneak a few bites

Eaglets named by students at Sidney Elementary School - Flyer, Snuggles and Burrows - link

#3 got a good feeding at the end of the day - all three eaglets ended up with big crops

[Note - I am hoping this timeline/summary will be useful to future researchers, so I will generally refer to the chicks as #1, #2 and #3, though I'll occasionally mention their names to help clarify who is who. ~JudyB]

May 11, 2011
27 days old - 25 days old - 22 days old

May 11 s'cap by jkr - #1 being fed while #2 waits; #3 doesn't quite dare join in the feeding this time

Summary:

First reported feeding - #1/Flyer and #2/Snuggles were fed; #3/Burrows didn't get any

Next feeding, #3 fed first, and well fed before joined by #2 who got some; #1 slept through the feeding

Noted that one of the adults (Mom?) has a red stain on the white tail feathers

#3 fed again a little later. then the two older ones fed at the next meal

lots of rain expected; Mom spent time in the nest in "mumbrella" position

big poop shot hit the cam

they weren't always all fed at each feeding, but by the end of the day all had been very well fed; there also didn't seem to be any reports of major rivalry or pecking

noted that #3 is getting good at grabbing food from the adult's beak - and at finding ways to sneak in so he's less likely to be pecked by the other two

last feeding was peaceful and all were fed

May 12 s'cap by Birdsie - feeding time

Summary

noted that the adults are spending time away from the nest tree (I think this was mentioned a few days earlier as well)

#2 coughed up a pellet

all three had a good, peaceful mid-morning feed

lots of food in the afternoon but #1 and #2 got most, then Mom ate most of the rest; both #1 and #2 were pecking at #3 and keeping him away during most of the feeding, and by the time they were full and he ventured over Mom was feeding herself and only gave him a few bites

evening feeding started with #1 being fed, then #3 joined the feeding and was fed enough that he stopped reaching for food being offered; #2 didn't take part in the feeding

some rivalry today, but all were fed in the end

May 13 s'cap by pamfl - 2:20 pm - possibly first look at line on #1/Flyer's foot

Summary:

looked as if all were fed in early morning feeding, #1 and #2 in front of adult and #3 on the side

2:40 pm - noted that #1/Flyer appeared to have her foot caught - link - video by anna-holland; #1 appeared to get free and moved around the nest afterwards

looked as if there was plenty of food for all again today
