2-23-12 * Smugglers Slough Nest

Just before Ma returns to the nest tree, Pa takes off.
He has spotted a juvenile in the area, possibly following Ma with her kill.
This is unacceptable and Pa makes it clear to the juvy that it is not welcome in this area.

Meanwhile, Ma SS has decided to do a fly around with her meal.
After a couple laps, she returns to perch in the nest tree.

The NOHA disappears into the tall grass, but comes up a moment later with empty talons.

The NOHA rises out of the grass and continues the hunt.
These birds are really hard working, blue collar raptors, and they seem to love to fly on windy days.

While I was watching the NOHA, Pa was soaring big 1/2 mile radius circles, about 400 feet high.
No luck, so he zooms back to the nest tree.
