Red River Nest * 12:45

After visiting the SS nest, I stopped by the Red River nest again, as it is on my way home.
One adult still brooding. The other was perched with its back to me. After watching for a couple minutes, I determined that it was feeding on something. * click photos bigger *

After a few minutes the Eagle grew tired of me watching it eat. It took off and flew to the back side of the trees.
Looks like the prey was a bunny.

NEST UPDATE * 4-12-10

Smugglers Slough Nest * 12:05

One Eagle in nest brooding. The mate was in their favorite perch tree about a kilometer away.


After about 20 minutes, the perched bird took off and was hassled by a pair of Red-Tail Hawks.
The brooding Eagle cranes its neck to watch its mate.



Once again, I went by the Nooksack Nest. Once again, no one around ??

Hi Kay * Great to see you checking in on this thread. That heron is a handsome creature. I'm not sure if the open beak was a yawn or what? It did not vocalize. I'll be checking on the Eagle nests tomorrow, so come back for a new report soon.

This next batch of photos is a bit off topic, but I think I'll get away with it.
This week, I took a quick trip over to the Olympic Peninsula, here in Washington State.
Here are a few photos of some of the birds that I saw.

Eagle perched in tree on Whidbey Island, near the Keystone ferry landing.


This Canada Goose looks like it is incubating eggs on this bundle of pilings at the Keystone ferry dock. This photo was taken from the ferry deck as we pulled away from the dock on Tuesday.


This photo was made on my return trip on Friday. Looks like a toxic environment to be raising goslings, but I wish them well.

A pair of Rhinoceros Auklets seen from the ferry.


A friend took me to this place near Sequim where eagles are in abundance. We counted over 25 eagles that we could see from one vantage point.


There were nine eagles in this tree.
