Hello Everyone,
About the darker egg, someone on the cam page "chat" (just below the cam picture) surmised the egg got wet in the heavy snow, got muddy from the nesting material. Is that possible? To me the bowl looks clean and grassy.

On the Eagleholics thread judy (garyandjudy) said this:
"maybe I'm making a bad judgement but the LaFarge eagles had three eggs last season but one was grey and the chick didn't hatch. So when the egg is grey it's not suppose to be good..."

I wanted to post this pic from last week of the membrane closing over the eagles eye which I happened to catch:

I know there is a name for it but can't remember....

I am totally hooked on the Decorah nest. It certainly will be an amazing view of any eaglets, God willing they hatch one or two... The panning capabilities of the cam are fun to watch. Perhaps that's why there are over 4100 viewers this morning... Oh My

Cam operator is panning right now. Here is the egg (just missed the really good capture, of course) Roll eyes
It looks more like it did last Thursday, so perhaps it WAS coated in a bit of mud..... Chin

You all have done such a great job here today!! Clapping Last year I was the only one posting here most of the time...I love having company!!!!! hug

I'm going to post my little summary of today...it was pretty uneventful as are most nests when the parents are incubating...but I have a couple of nice ones.

Here was an egg roll in the middle of the night. I wonder if they all do that?? I've never seen it before.

Mayline...you were right! The egg didn't look nearly so bad this morning as last night. A poster elsewhere said off color eggs never hatch. I don't think that is so. Some eggs get dyed different colors according to what vegetation the parents use in the nest just by being rolled around in it. I'm sure I have seen successful hatches from "colored" rggs.
