Raptor resource on facebook reported that there was a raccoon in the Decorah nest about midnight on Feb 17. This is very regretable but they will be doing what they can. Hard to do too much since it is so close to egg laying time. I will check to see if there is any more info. In the note it said that they will use mothballs and do whatever else they can but do not wish to disturb the eagles so close to egg laying time.

ETA: I did not find much at the Decorah home page. The raccoon was on the nest long enough to eat and lie down to rest. Pictures are posted at the Decorah home page.

Nice to see you here, Donna! Thank you for mentioning that visit! I've been out all day and haven't had a chance to do so. I haven't even checked facebook today at all. I was actually awakr and watching the cam when the racoon appeared...boy was I surprised!! Wooh He/she was on the nest that I saw for better than an hour. I do have some pics of the rascal that I will post later.

Good Morning Feb 19, 2011

Ma was in the nest early testing out the egg bowl and moving a few things around. She may be getting ready for that first egg.

That fat raccoon ought to take a look at the video of Pa and the hawk. Phew would not want to get Pa mad for sure.
