Mary, those are very special pictures

Video: Parasites Annoy Decorah Eaglets

Most people are surprised to learn the amount of parasites, but external and internal, that bedevil wildlife. I've had parasites jump onto my arms when I was examining a bird at the wildlife hospital.

Recorded at 4 PM local time

1st egg: 2/23
2nd egg: 2/26
3rd egg: 3/2
1st hatch: 4/1
2nd hatch: 4/3
3rd hatch: 4/6

beans....Aren't they just terrible!! You can see them crawling in and out of the poor eaglet's feathers. I've been watching this cam since it came online a few years ago and I have NEVER seen anything like the problem they have this year. Maybe it has something to do with all the rain and unseasonable heat that Iowa has had this spring. I hate to see them flicking and flicking their heads and scratching so much!! Sad

The worst parasites are the worms that are under the skin in the mouths of birds.... we give them medications to get rid of them.

All wildlife is afflicted with parasites. Unless you work in a hospital, you can never get close enough to see them. This cam gave us an opportunity, so I had to record that clip and post it here for educational purposes.

I think that was a great idea, beans!! From my observation there today between the heat and all the different "bugs" they seemed quite miserable!
