Decorah, Iowa - 2011 - Bald Eagle Cam
http://www.luther.edu/eaglecam/
Other cams in the area - http://www.raptorresource.org/falcon_cams/index.html
This nest was featured on the Nature show "American Eagle" - and now you can watch it live!
The nest is in Decorah, Iowa; the exact location is not publicized to protect the eagles. Local time is Central time. The pair has been observed since 2002 - you can read the Nest Diaries online at the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation website - but 2009 was its first year online. They successfully raised three eaglets in both 2009 and 2010. In 2010 the youngest eaglet was 7 days younger than the oldest and 5 days younger than the middle chick, so newly hatched at the time the older ones were beginning to move out of the nest bowl; we were concerned that it would have a hard time getting a share of the food - but the excellent parents at this nest made sure all were fed appropriately to their age and stage.
Based past experience for this pair, look for eggs in late February or early March, chicks in early to mid-April, and fledging in late June or early July.
2010-2011 Season:
- cam on: November 9, 2010
- eggs laid: February 23, 5:35 pm , February 26, 6:47pm; March 2, evening
- hatched: April 2, 2:39 am (38 days); April 3, 7:02 am (36 days); April 6, 6:48 pm (35 days)
- fledged: one June 18, other two June 23 (not sure who went first)
- last seen:

2010 pictures - April 10 - third egg hatching and April 18 - difference in size (chicks are 8, 13 and 15 days old)

Quote by: golden1I was visiting raptor resource today and noticed that Decorah was up. I found wonderful news there. The cam is being replaced with a stronger one that also has a zoom. They have also found a new server as the Luther College server could no longer handle the many, many viewers (350,000 or so). They are hoping that doners will help the man who paid for this out of pocket. They are planning on having the zoom in place to watch for the first pip of the eggs and other close up excitement. 2011 season is going to have many new looks at the various nests. Maybe there will be triplets again this season.

The nest is full of snow right now and the cams are on and off. The plan is that they will be on now and the new cam is in place. There is a new server also. you can access the cam here http://www.raptorresource.org/falcon_cams/index.html
The season is started but the eaglets are a few months off, yet the faithful viewers are very excited about all the great changes. I guess a good word for this time is anticipation.

Hi Cal interesting tips on the parents and telling them apart.
Must be COLD in Iowa as the snow is just THERE. Not much change from yesterday.

Hi Donna,
Yes, my friend from Decorah says it is "COLD". Weather Underground reports 29 - 20 degrees with snow and ice pellets. "Henny Penny" needs to watchout for those "ice pellets" falling from the sky.
