Mary, indoor vs outdoor cats is hotbutton issue for some. it comes up occasionally in the Conservation Conversation thread for discussion..... I will always encourage discussion and its too important to not consider the consequences to avian population to ignore it.

what a fabulous nest picture, vickyb....thanks so much for posting with the construction details!!!

and YES, if you keep cat indoors only, it will not kill birds, it will not be run over, nor poisoned by someone that doesn't appreciate neighbor's cat in their bird yard!!!
its the law where I live that cats and dogs must be fenced or on leash!

Thanks for mentioning that about indoor cats, jwnix!! My 4 spoiled princess kitties all live totally indoors and they are very happy to do so. They never even try to get out the door, never get sick, or have fleas, and live long lives.

Vicki...I just read that the author Dick Francis lived in the Caymans. He passed away today at 89. Mr. PE and I have read every single one of his books and we will miss having new ones to read!!Sad

Thanks for the news Maryforbes, even if it is not good. There has been no news here about Dick Francis. Where did you hear that. Not even on the net yet. He lived in a house on 7 Mile Beach for many years. Well known and loved.

Vicki...I read about Dick Francis' death on the MSN home page news. It must have been about 2:00 CST this afternoon when I read it. I just heard it on the NBC News as I type this!Sad

jwnix...I'm sure that you must remember from our earlier conversations how I feel about outdoor cats. I believe that basically there is no reason at all why they need to be outside! Many of the birds in my yard have disappeared one way or another due to all of my friendly neighborhood--"got to be outside" cats. I recently removed one to the inside of my house. My neighbor terribly neglected her and didn't even get her vet care when another one of his other cats tore her up pretty badly. She lived on my patio for about 7 months. I took care of her wounds, fed her and she had her own little bed out there. The final blow was when he went away for 2 weeks without providing for his 4 outdoor cats in our horrible hot weather. I called Animal Control, explainned the situation, and they told me she was my cat...legally! He has lived across the street for about 5 years and has gone through about 30 or so cats by my count. At least I saved one!! Left thumb up

His writing is not everybody's cup of tea but we have enjoyed every one of the 41 books. His last, #42, will be published this fall.

wave Hi and Happy Wubday to everyone....Smile

I didn't have any m&m's Sad to enjoy for Valentine's Day ... but it was a nice day anyway!! Nodding

Hubby and I seldom celebrate Valentine's Day (he doesn't like anyone  telling him what day of the year to bring me flowers, candy or take me out to dinner Roll eyes) but today we did go out to one of our favorite places, but for lunch, not dinner ...it was mighty tasty Nodding I had sea scallops sautead in white wine with mushrooms and onions...hmmmmm YUM!! Left thumb up

It was overcast but not raining when we left there and headed back toward home, so we decided to drive out near Puget Sound and look around. We stopped at a little park, and I was looking at the ducks when what did I spy but an eagle!! Left thumb upLeft thumb up So, just had to share a couple of photos with everyone.

I am glad to hear that the consensus on this thread is for the most part that indoor cats are safer and healthier than outdoor cats....I know from personal experience that mine always have been since I started doing that. I used to have indoor/outdoor cats, but stopped after a few bad situations..... I had one kitty that was hit by a car and killed (terrible CryCryCry experience....) and a couple of others that were chewed up by other cats or raccoons that entailed surgeries and infections, etc. Not worth it to me. BobCat was a feral, but he has no desire to go out anymore....sort of looks at me like why :huh:would I want to chase a mouse, Tongue vole or bird It Wasn't Me when you just keep food available to me at my beck and call Puzzled??? We have coyotes here too, so I've heard some not so good stories from people on them and their cats and small dogs....Help emoOh My

Oh ~ and I have never understood how people can say that animals do not have different expressions.... I tend to not agree with that at all! These two of mine definitely do....giggle

Well, here are the photos ....
Have a great evening everyone....

Good Morning Everyone, wavewave

Jan~~~Well, I did manage to stay up for about half of the opening ceremonies. Good thing I taped it so I could watch it the next morning. Canada did itself proud. Left thumb upClapping It was so very interesting the way they portrayed the history of Canada. I sure don't know how they put all that together , but it was awesome. And the scenery they showed by plane was beautiful. My sister also told me how much she enjoyed the scenery. Nodding

Mary~~~I think we ought to show that cat expert some pictures of Bobcat, for sure. I love to watch my cats expressions. Nodding

Jwnix~~~Boy, just one bee scares me. Help emo Easier for me is to let my husband change the hummer water. Titter

Vicki~~~Thank you so much for going though with the wonderful explanation of how that Mockingbird made it's nest. That would have been so interesting to watch. Those blue & white strips had me baffled. Puzzled I can't help but wonder why they wanted that ring holder in the nest either. Birds are so interesting to me. I was also surprised by that parrot eating those green plums. Seems like they would prefer them ripe. Puzzled Great pictures. Left thumb up

Cindy~~~Can't help but be a little green with envy. Especially seeing that beautiful eagle. You're such a lucky Ducky. I took some pictures last week-end also. But these Turkeys aren't nearly as pretty as your eagle & ducks. They are very interesting to watch as they come in for the corn we put out back and there must be around 20 of them.

Now I just hope this works.

hello all! Hope you are having a nice Tuesday.
I have been away - and this morning, my computer was being used for training purposes. So, couldn't read/look at the pics until now! Wow, those are nice pics of the water fowl and the eagle, cindy. Thank so much.

Vicki - nice pics too - that bird nest is awsome and the one of the parrot eating the tree fruit is nice too - too bad he's eating the fruit you would like to eat when ripe!

elaine - I didnt see any pics of Canada, the next morning. Actually, hubby and I managed to watch the whole of the ceremony, much to our amazement.

It's been such a nice, sunny day here today. Sure does make a difference in a person's mood.

Take care- I'll look in again tomorrow.

Jan wave
