Hi Queenie: Good to see you back again. I really enjoy your collages, and I certainly can sympathize with leafed-out nests. One of the local active nests is only visible in late fall and winter after all the leaves have blown away. I always know I’m never going to see any eaglets because by mid-spring all the leaves will be back to hide the nest.

First you must follow before you lead.

Reelfoot Lake Sanctuary, TN~Eagle Pair Mating

Thank You Ed ~that is certainly the truthOh MyExclaimation ~we were lucky enough to get to see this eagle pair mating on an Eagle Days tour the day before Valentine's Day '10; and when we went back to see the nest and 'lets this summer; we couldn't even find which tree had the nest, Chin all the trees were leafed-out in the long rows & all around it. A deep sigh It is on a long large levee over-looking the Mississippi River at Reelfoot Sanctuary in Tennessee. This year when we go; we will find some way to map/mark that tree while the leaves are off, so we can come back & try to see them again next summer. IdeaNoddingRed Heart

{sorry, a couple of the shots are a little blurry; but as we all know what a fast process their mating is~and you don't get too many chances or do-overs;
& all the shots were needed, like the one at the end looking down at us; wave & some were exciting, also}Oh My :blink:

We went to the Red HeartSitting eagle 9th Annual Eagle Festival at Reelfoot Lake again February 1-3~ Sitting eagleRed Heartand took the eagle tour around the lake and out to the levee, where there are 4 nests in a row near the water a distance away from the road~we thought we could only see an eagle in one, but then another one popped up in another~these eagles are fairly used to eagle fans with the 2-hour tours by bus or van running every day in January & February {every winter since 1974} These tours are lead by state park rangers and naturalists, who provide plenty of eagle information along the way as they know the eagles and waterfowl well, such info. as there is a female eagle they think has different mates regularly, very unusual for birds that mate for life, & they're not sure what happens to them~ in a nest not on the tour, too hard to get to.

Reelfoot Lake is home to one of the largest wintering populations of eagles in the country. During the peak season (Jan.-Feb.) there can be as many as 200 eagles wintering on Reelfoot.

we don't see as many as we did a few years ago~we used to spot several in the trees as we drove through the popular areas.
