Great s'cap of the egg, thanks, BET. Congratulations, Lady of the Loch of the Lowes .Cloud 9

8 am - 8:15 am I thought I was watching the lovely lady calmly incubating while surveying her "kingdom", pulling some of the nesting material around her and doing an egg roll earlier. Now that I see the osprey is up and is stomping recklessly in the nest bowl and throwing large quantities of the grass and moss around I realize it must be her new swain.

Yes, here comes the lady now and stomper flies out, I do hope that the egg is okay. I'm sure now that must have been the male as Lady would never have been so reckless around her precious egg. Maybe she did lay one earlier and it was destroyed by just such behaviour? I'm sorry that I witnessed that.

I didn't get a glimpse of the egg as was typing and you are right about the cam, - it is cutting out every few minutes, frustrating to watch, and taping would prove impossible. Well, I wish the Lady loads of luck this year, it looks like she is going to need it!

Regarding the phantom egg. I had the cam on and watched the segment when Lady got up and flew off the nest. No egg visible and more important no mate at the nest. I watched closely ( refreshing until my eyes were crossing) Lady was gone for almost an hour. The male did come in sometime during that period of time and seemed to be setting up a "nest defense" behavior. (I don't have time right now to review my video to see what his exact behavior was, but definitely no interest to check an egg) He left - Lady returned - and she just perched on the branch at the back of the nest. She did not check the nest bowl at all. I do not believe there was ever an egg laid at that time. Her egg laying behavior may have been her reaction to an egg developing and starting it's descent. ???

Thanks, BET, good to hear that this is the first egg this year. They are definitely incubating now and do have loads of soft bedding in the bowl, the new father's specialty. Grin At least he is now bringing lady more fish to eat. Here's hoping the eggs hatch this year. fingers crossed

All looks well this afternoon, breezy but not snowing as it is in Calgary. (I see that you caught our osprey at the nest this morning).

Lady delivered egg #2

Just a few minutes before the delivery, her mate bred her - she did not seem happy about it although she did lift her tail to the appropriate position. Perhaps the scent she was producing for the egg delivery is the same or similar to the "ready to be bred" scent.

Friday April 20

Approximately at 4:23pm Lady delivered egg number 3. The time out made it difficult to tell for sure, but the close up shows the 3

4 am

The adult (likely the Lady) got up for a brief stretch and I got to see the eggs - and they are still looking like eggs (though hiding a bit)! Today is only day 36 for the first egg, so it is a bit too soon to expect to see any activity.
