Hi Linda: Yes, I like the eagle at low tide, too. It's very unusual to see this so that in itself makes for an interesting picture. -- Ed

Hi Ed * Great reports and photos! The double decker nest looks really cool. They should use the upper one, so that the lower one will catch the fledglings if they try to fly too soon, or fall out of the upper nest.Grin

Hi Doug: That's a novel idea. Why didn't I think of that? -- Ed

Semiahmoo Spit, 3-11-10. Sunshine this morning turned to clouds by the time I hiked to the spit this afternoon. This pair of eagles was atop the north-end snag and had drawn a crowd of viewers, including one man with his dog who walked directly under the nest. That alone usually makes the eagles fly away, but today they remained atop the snag.

Semiahmoo Spit, 3-11-10, continued. This is the same pair of eagles. Over the years, this location has been a popular spot for eagles, so much so that it is difficult to come up with new angles for photos. I used some small fir trees as a foreground for these two photos.

Semiahmoo Spit, 3-11-10, continued. There was a lot of wildlife in the harbor and on Semiahmoo Bay today. Mergansers, Cormorants, Brants and seagulls were all clustered together in the bay. but Canada Geese have been gone for the past two weeks. The Brants were often in flight around the harbor and over the bay, while the eagles (previous two posts) remained in the snag. Brants in flight:

Semiahmoo Bay Nest update, 3-11-10. At last some good news as we spotted a mature in the nest late this afternoon. This is the first time I’ve been able to photograph a mature in the nest, although one and sometimes a pair of eagles are in a nearby snag. This is the same nest last year that had an unhappy ending. Two chicks fledged here in 2008, but in 2009, we believe a raccoon got into the nest and either destroyed the chicks or took the eggs. We believe the latter likely occurred, since we never were able to observe any eaglets. Hopefully we’ll have eaglets this year.
