Hi Doug: I've hiked Stimpson several times, but all I've ever seen in terms of wildlife are some black-tails.
You hit the jackpot on your hike. I've spent lots of time by those ponds looking for beaver and have never spotted one. Now I know they're there.

First you must follow before you lead.

Hi Ed * Yes, I've hiked Stimpson dozens of times and this is the first time I've seen beaver. I have heard them before, but this time I saw them on three different occasions. It was very quiet, no other humans. I hunkered down in the bushes near the shore and just waited. That is a wonderful trail.

South Bellingham Heron Rookery * 6-29-10

Located in the Fairhaven district, this is beside a short trail that is an off-leash dog park and then goes to Post Point. Near the shore of Bellingham Bay and Marine Park, it is a hillside of large trees that the herons have claimed. This rookery is fenced and closed to the public, but the Herons are easily viewed from outside the fence.

I had noticed this eagle high overhead. It went into a dive and I thought I might see something that I didn't want to see. The eagle did some fancy flying, including a corkscrew move, and then just landed in a perch with much vocalizing. It sounded like there was another eagle in the tree, but I couldn't see it.
