They are getting huge! Thank you so much, sawrat and Larry! I am so sorry they decided to build a new nest - they look like such fun to watch. Smile

Hi All,

It was interesting to watch after the sun set behind me to see Ma coaching the young on to test their wings She would take short glides then come back and the young young taking turns jumping and flapping. It was very interesting to watch.

I have posted the pictures on facebook and a reminder that you do not need to have a Facebook account to view them

Hi all,

3 pictures that tell the tale of who is the preditor and prey.

Watching for bit around 8:30 pm in the shadows of the setting sun I watched Ma glide to one of the log booms not far from a harbour seal. It took instant notice of her and within 25 seconds escaped into the water fearful of Ma.

Hi all,

There was not too much activity at the nest Thursday. The young where just sitting around an Ma was in a tree a little closer to the point. Later in the evening when I went out to if there was any activity. I spotted Ma on Peco Deck and I watched her pull apart some bark that was there and take it to the nest. She appeared to just drop it off and left to an adjoining tree.

There was still very little activity at the nest as the young seemed a bit disinterested in Ma's offering of bark at the nest. I noticed Ma a few minutes later leave the tree an flew behind the trees so I lost sight of her. She came back about a minute or so later and again dropped something off at the nest as she did not stay. 1 of the young went an looked at what she dropped off and then promptly turned away.

Ma flew down to the log booms and as I said earlier she clearly is the predator and the seal considered itself prey and left. Ma went to another part of the boom that she had landed on and looked around then flew over to on the of the other boom sticks in the water and again was looking around before she flew up onto the steel dolphin where the fading light made taking pictures close to impossible with my camera.

I suspect she was looking for nest material. The fact that she had seen me on the Peco Deck taking pictures made me think that she likely would have come back to the Peco Deck had I not been there. As for the young being disinterested I can only sum up to "lessons in nest building are not as exciting as hunting"

All 42 pictures are posted on Facebook

Cheers

Hi all,

Not too much activity at the nest again today from what I saw. What I did notice was 1 of the young up on a higher branch which is something I had not seen before. You can se3e it hiding amongst the leaves on the upper left of the nest.I think I will see it there more often now as they are testing their wings and gaining confidence.

Caught Ma doing a little fishing in the inlet on my last stop by.
I have posted the 19 pictures on Facebook

Cheers
