Wow! And that is all I can say is Wow after watching the pair have a successful hunt this morninig from the new nest.

As I approached the nest at 8 am they were sitting there.

Then I noticed they both turned their attention towards Rocky Point Pier and the water between them.

The one on the branch had it's body staighten out and look to go ridged for a few moments before taking flight. I have some pictures will give a little more detail as soon as I have time but I will say Wow!

Sorry for the delay but duty called and I got busy, This will likely be a bit drawn but will do my best to describe what I saw of the hunt this morning.

First the map shows shows the fight paths of all involved and gives a better picture of what happened.

The first Eagle left the nest and did a low swoop towards the board walk and then swung back south to roost in the trees across the street from the Rowing Club.

Once in the tree by the Rowing club it turned it's attention to the real action

As I waited for my camera to process what I thought were good pictures I looked out over the water towards the board walk in time to see the other eagle up high over past the board walk and do a U turn and dive down into the returning group of Gulls and Pigeons. Talons out it struck a Gull and grabbed it and dropped another 8 feet before flying back towards the nest with it's catch.

It flew towards a lower branch on the tree with it's catch in it's talons

Once perched there on the branch it almost seemed to be waiting as a few crows had started their usual chatter and gathered on a branch near by.

I heard the mate call as it flew just passed me about 20 feet higher up.

It landed near the nest, higher up that the one that had gull still clutched in it's talons. It kept looking down at it's mate with the gull almost admiring it's catch. Calling out several times.

The mate sat up in the branch and you could see it was getting restless as it kept looking around waiting for it's chance to eat I thought. There were even about a dozen crows that gathered near by the eagle with the gull making noise.

After about what seemed like 5 mins of watching the eagle roosting on the branch with it's catch It suddenly lifted up and flew a slow circle around the point with it's catch still locked into it's talons it passed by me and flew into the nest with the catch.

The other eagle made quite a bit of noise for a minute or so before joining it's mate in the nest for breakfast.

Once in the nest I was not in a good spot to take anymore pictures and had to go. I kept an eye on the nest from a distance and they were there in the nest until about 9 am at which time they vacated it for the crows to have what ever remained as they flew to the perch pole until 10:05 am when they both left the pole and headed north. I did not see them at the nest for the remainder of the day and at 2:30 pm when I left they still had not returned.

Now that I know what to look for in terms of body language I will have a better idea when they are preparing to hunt and hopefully will get some better pictures.

Cheers
