Welcome to the 2017/2018 Season!

Stalashen Nest

Welcome to this thread. If you visit the Stalashen nest in Sechelt you are welcome to post comments and pictures here.

Earl & I have been watching this nest in Sechelt from our living room, through a telescope and binoculars. The nest is located at the corner of Stalashen Drive and Titalshen Avenue. We have been following this nest since 2008. When we first started reporting on the nest we had talked to a few of the people living close to the nest and they said that it has been there over 20 years. Unfortunately, it did blow down in July 2009 after a windstorm but we are happy to tell you that the eagles built a new nest. When the nest blew down one of the eaglets had branched and the 2nd one was fine also, the eagles fed them on a branch before they fledged. We look through our telescope at this nest which is about a mile and a half away. We can only see them clearly in the morning or evening due to the glare from the water and thermal interference.

Added July 16, 2017. Sandra was told by neighbours that this nest is 50 yrs. old (could even be older than that even) when his wife moved there she was 1 she's now 51.

I am happy to say that in February 2010 I met Sandra, (stim) and she started to post on the threads. Karen H, Aspen and Heatherj have joined our team also to report on this nest and the other nests on the Sunshine Coast. Also, several HWF members posted their pictures and observations when they were in the area visiting or attending a Lunch Bunch meet! Thank You.

2009 - 2 eaglets not named. Fledged.
2010 - 1 eaglet Sunny. Fledged.
2011 - 1 eaglet Bluster June 21 Bluster branched. Fledged.
2012 - 1 eaglet Pacer June 27 Pacer branched. Fledged.
2013 - 1 eaglet Hydan June branched. Fledged.
2014 - 2 eaglets branched ..... Fledged July 16.
2014 - Sep 28, 5:50pm Ma/Pa Stalashen back!
2015 - 2 eaglets branched.......Fledged
2015 - Sep 30 Ma/Pa returned.
2016 - 1 eaglet, Orel fledged June 28. At the beginning of this season we thought that there were 2 eaglets in this nest but on May 19 we could only see one eaglet through the telescope. We don't know what happened but what was believed to be an eagle wing was found on the ground by two of our members Karen H and Aspen. Karen H stated "At the time we didn't know if it was from the missing eaglet or another bird". As stated on the thread I contacted Gibsons Wildlife but they had not had any report of an eaglet found on the ground.
2016 - Sep 19 one eagle returned.
2017 - Two eaglets branched one fledged June 30 2017 the other one a few days later.
2017 - Oct. 1 Ma or Pa returned.

Ma & Pa Stalashen are not back yet but will be in a few days.
We have seen several adult eagles and one juvie flying near our house. We had a mature Bald Eagle fly low over our house yesterday.Today Ma & Pa Stalashen would have seen this passing by their nest tree. Jimmy Pattison's yacht the Nova Spirit.
Picture a little blurry sorry.

No eagles to be seen through your telescope. We will be entertained by Jimmy Pattison. Left thumb up

Oh wow, what a coincidence. Would you believe I've been on Jimmy's yacht!! When I was still working in the head office of Overwaitea/Save-On-Foods here in Langley, I got to go on the annual cruise he has each year for the executive secretaries and switchboard operators at all of his businesses. That's cool that you spotted it.

Hi Karen, I thought of you when we saw it. We have seen it before and other big yachts going by that's why I love living here.
