Welcome to the Victoria Airport Eagles thread for the 2017/2018 season. The property the eagles nest tree is on is in a development area and was not accessible this past season. Therefore, I don't know if the eagles produced any eaglets. The development is a large area with many houses being built but I'm hoping I will be able to access the road in front of the nest tree this season. Info on previous years' activities at this nest can be found here.

I have continued to call this nest the Victoria Airport nest because of what happened in the past. This nest is quite far from the actual airport so I have re-named it the Reay Creek nest, to reflect the name given to it many years ago by a WiTS volunteer.

Although I didn't visit this nest this past season due to the ongoing construction project, I did receive confirmation that the eagles produced 2 eaglets that successfully fledged Left thumb up

I visited the area of this nest yesterday with 2 of my birding friends. The new road into the south part of the new subdivision is now open. The female was in the nest eating. A short while later the male flew in and sat in the nest until the female was finished eating. The female flew up to a branch beside the nest to clean her beak. She flew up to a higher branch and the male joined her. They sat side by side for a few minutes then she started chattering to him, he immediately jumped up onto her back and copulation occurred Left thumb up The male jumped back down onto the branch and a short while later the female flew to a nearby tree, shaking out her feathers, preening and scratching her neck. The male flew off towards the water and eventually the female flew off over the subdivision. I will post some photos later.
