This was one of the first nests that I watched back quite a few years ago. I'm so glad to hear that they are active and that there is an egg!!!! They had such a rough year last year with a horrible snow storm...I wish them good luck this year! I'll be watching. love

P.S. I wonder if this is a new Mom?

Interesting question, Mary. There was a report that two eagles were seen within a week or two after the chicks were lost last year, and we were hoping that Mom had recovered and rejoined Dad - but I do remember an instance in Florida where the female was shot Sad - and the male was seen with a potential new mate within a few days. I don't know if they became a pair - but it does suggest that eagles move on faster than we do.

With that as background, I have heard from some people who have watched the nest regularly since the cam came online, and they believe it is a new female, likely a younger one based on the coloring. They included a picture, which does seem to show some brown in the head and tail. I don't remember what exactly that means in terms of age - but I would guess this is her first year as a Mom. Here's the pic (click for larger):

And now I have a question - was it here or Decorah that someone though they saw a leg band on one of the parents?

Puzzled JudyB..I thought it was at the Decorah nest where a parent may have been banded. I'm like you...I watch entirely too many nests! LOL

That pic to me doesn't look like the Mom who was there before to me. I've watched that cam for a few years as well. I don't remember any brown on her head. I looks like we may have a new Mom!!Chin I'll see if I have any pics of the Mom in this nest before saved in my puter.

9:09 a.m. MST, Parent switch.

Maybe the egg would have been visable had I used the side view rather than overhead.
