Apparently some people continue to believe and keep reporting to others a false rumor: that Doug's close-up cam is covered with nesting material and his view is completely obscured. This is not true!
He posted here once that it was PARTIALLY obscured, but that even then he could still see what was going on. But since that time he communicated with Vic that there had been a whole lot of tramping down of sticks, and that the close-up cam view was COMPLETELY CLEARED!
He and Sheila can enjoy watching Ma and Pa and Elizabeth now at their leisure, without a ton of equipment and flashing lights in their home. With a front row seat, since the close-up cam is Doug's window to the world of the Hornby eagles that he knows better than anybody else.
I hope that Doug and Sheila are relaxing and enjoying the show!

Though I don't post here, I am a frequent reader, and I am sometimes disappointed in the response some chatters get in this forum when they ask questions about whether Doug can keep posting or updating. I realize many of you are long-time viewers of Hornby, but may I suggest that we remember that people who are not entrenched in the history might ask innocent questions. The occasional presence of Doug on chats and in forums makes people hopeful that he will keep updating us. Yes, it is Doug's retirement, he is in the "driver's seat", it is his choice, and yes we can move on (I did the day he announced he would retire), but many people are more hopeful. Let's be kind to those people. I think a lot of the questions are like Nubchai's a couple of pages back -- an innocent one -- I hope that the people who may feel scolded at times on this forum will not stay away because of it. We are all humans who happen to love eagles.
When we tell people that Doug is retired and will post at his leisure, perhaps we can say just that and not include our frustrations.
And just so I am not misunderstood about how I feel about Doug...I am especially grateful to Doug for his last year at the helm. Although I watch several nests, Alexandra and David fill a special place in my heart. Doug allowed us to see the two fledge before he retired and I will never forget that he did that. Doug and Sheila deserve the best, and I hope they get lots of time to enjoy it. I hope one of these days to visit Hornby and perhaps I can tell Doug that myself.
We lost an eaglet at Delta this week, and many people came to just say how sorry they are. We have that one thing in common: we love all eagles, all nests, all chicks. We all appreciate the property owners, cam owners and operators, foundations, etc., who allow us to view and learn about the eagles, even if we don't always know how to express that appreciation.

irisheagle -
I think you're implying that since my post followed nubchai's, that I was somehow scolding nubchai in my post about Doug now being retired and in the "driver's seat," since that was a direct quote from my post. I'm sorry you're disappointed in what I said. I thought I was being measured in my tone, and gentle in my explanation about how I think Doug deserves to take a rest. It was not my intention to scold anyone, but to suggest that we let Doug decide if and when and where he would give updates. If that came across as scolding toward anyone, I am very sorry.

kickingbird,
I'm writing this in hopes that it follows your post to wherever JudyB puts us. I wasn't even sure who used "driver's seat", but I was not implying you were scolding Nubchai. I would never have written had it been just one person. You were very good in explaining how Doug deserves a rest. What I wanted to point out is that through the forum I have noticed posts (on some chats too) where chatters have asked a question and then 3 or 4 people responded with passionate responses about Doug and his retirement. I have seen chatters mention it in other places, that they felt unwelcome. You can see how our messages sometimes don't come across as intended, apparently I didn't do a good job with mine either!
I offer you an apology also. If I made you feel singled out, that was not my intention.
It appears that I mistakenly thought this forum thread was about the Hornby eagles, for anyone to make observations. I stand corrected by JudyB's post and will not return to it.
I hope to see you in other forums, kickingbird.

I am sorry if I wasn't clear - and I'm very sorry if I've hurt anyone by my post.
I know many of us are hurting right now because of the loss of the Delta 2 eaglet Goldwing, and there have been a number of other losses this year.
This thread is for observations about the Hornby eagles - but I haven't seen any actual reports on the eagles here in weeks.
Anyone who lives on Hornby or visits Hornby is welcome to post about the eagles here.
But please - this is an eagle discussion thread - so please, limit the discussion to eagles. Thank you.
PS - the latest round of posts will be moving to the Friends of Hornby chat thread sometime tomorrow.
