Ed your photos are fantastic Clapping I love the pics of the otters and the sunset pic was a spectacular one to close with. After seeing Haines and Sitka, the glaciers calving and all the different wildlife you saw, I agree; it's time to start planning another trip to Alaska Right thumb up

I sat here in total amazement looking at the black-legged Kittewakes nesting on that dock. Talk about living on the edge ! Wooh

Ed, Wow! Thank you for leading me here.

I love Sitka also. Our last trip it was too rough to go there so we went to a port that was fantastic _ Icy Point Strait and that is where we had the breach after breach after breach for 2 hours of whales right next to our ship.

Some unexpected things turn out to be treasures (oh the ship, was a little whale watching ship we took).

Also, love the eagles, otters, puffins, etc. Glorious......

Kay, The otters were definitely the highlight as far as wildlife viewing goes during our trip. Also enjoyed seeing puffins, kittiwakes and Bonaparte gulls, three birds I had never seen until this trip. It seems there’s always something new on every trip to Alaska.

Judy, It turns out this is typical behavior for nesting kittiwakes, which have very sharp claws enabling them to dig in on the edge of cliffs or in this case on structures on the water. I wonder, however, if some of the chicks fell into the water before they fledged.

Carolyn, Sorry you couldn’t get into Sitka. Were you able to get off the ship at Icy Straight Point (red cannery building) and go into Hoonah?
