I thought maybe Mom was getting into the zone - when Dad arrived with a big stick! Mom took off briefly while he adjusted it. Both are on the nest now, and it looks as if she's not crazy about having such a huge stick in the middle of the nest. But I'm betting they'll find just the right place for it!

2:50 pm
Well, no egg yet, and there's an intruder in the neighborhood. Both were on the nest, and I saw some dangling feet hover by - though the cam is quite a ways away from the nest, and whoever I saw might have been farther than it looked. They were definitely tracking activity in the area, and while I'm not sure who was who, one took off and the other hunkered down into the nest. Things seemed to calm down after that, so I'm guessing the one that gave chase was successful. The other one left a moment ago, so the nest is empty now.
3:30 pm
Looks as if things are getting back to normal....

It's now 4:04, and one is in the nest puttering around - I think it's Mom, but am not sure about that.
4:46 pm
Mom is still hanging around the nest, moving slow - and just did another poop shot off the edge. Also doing a bit of preening of her chest, where the brood patch will be. She is very handsome - and I do think it's getting close to egg-laying time.

Added -
I didn't keep track, but but Dad definitely had his oysters or something today - he stopped by for a bit of bonding at least 3 or 4 times in the course of an hour, and a couple of times after that.
Mom left as it began to get dark, and the nest was empty when it got too dark to see clearly.

Good Morning Judy and Sherri,
Great to hear that mom & dad are doing so well. Thank you for the updates and the great pictures of them.
I am amazed at the depth of the nest. Here is a s'cap of mom in the nest.

Good job building that nest!

I had sent Iain MacLeod an email earlier this morning to let him know my suspicions of egg laying. I just had an
email from him confirming that we do indeed have our first egg!
(JudyB, I would like to link to WOW forum for the slideshows I did but didn't want to do that as I was afraid it
would take up bandwith here. I'm not sure how that all works. )

Good morning, Jude and Sherri! I'm feeling a bit under the weather, so slept in and missed all the excitement.
Here's a link to your posts with the great slideshows on the WOW forum, Sherri - http://www.window-on-wildlife.com/index ... 6#msg39056
There's no problem linking back and forth, and no problem posting pics and slideshows from PhotoBucket directly here - the bandwidth only becomes an issue if you attach a picture to a post here, or load it in the HWF Media Gallery, and then post a link to it on other forums.
Here's a picture of one of them incubating - not sure who, but one was back pretty fast once the crane moved out of the view of the cam.
10:32 am

If I were to copy the file location for that s'cap (which is on the HWF servers) and then go to the WOW forum and use IMG tags to post the picture there, every time someone opened that page on the WOW forum, the forum software would go to the HWF servers to import the picture so people can see it - which uses HWF bandwidth. If the pictures are uploaded to PhotoBucket or Flickr, a bit of their bandwidth is used every time someone views one of those pictures - but that's their business, and the reason that you either see ads or pay a fee to PhotoBucket. Hope that sort of makes sense.
10:39 am
I've been seeing the lines from the crane for about five minutes. I think it must be a bit farther away as the incubating adult seems aware but not overly nervous.

It's a sunny day and not too cold, so the egg will be fine if it is left untended from time to time - but I do hope the construction isn't going to last too long as there's rain forecast for the weekend.

Dad just stopped by to spend some time with Mom. It's possible that he was hoping for a chance to incubate, but she seems quite content.

Dad left after a few minutes. Mom is doing a bit of digging in the nest, and settling back in.
