I posed the question at the Osprey Facebook page and this is the answer from Heiko:

Osprey Cams I suppose time will tell. We have no video, only pictures from last year's return. They started working hard on the nest the same day (see a couple photos on the "2011 Timeline" on the camera page), so you may be right and it is not the desired male.

Osprey Cams However, the streaked bib suggests it IS the same bird as last year.

I've been gone today so I don't have a video to show if there has been any activity at the nest. I will be watching the rest of the day as well as most of tomorrow. Hopefully we'll know for sure soon!

One of the ospreys was at the nest this afternoon. Sat around, watching in all directions and did some nestorations moving sticks and branches around.

Good Morning Hellgate! Good Morning All!





7:40am- Osprey sitting on edge of nest.


7:40am- Must be waiting and watching for mate. I haven't seen two at the nest at the same time again, so that must have been an intruder there the other day.

There's an osprey there now, appears to be the same one as yesterday, just sitting there enjoying the sunshine and waiting....Mare

Could be so wrong but I have a real strong feeling that this is the female. I tried to submit a screen shot but it won't allow me to, it said it's a bad request. Mare

Trying this again, this time I took a pic with my camera. Arrgggh, and as i am trying to do this, another osprey landed in the nest. The first one was mantling and the other flew off. But now "she" is making little chirping noises as if calling to the other, not the angry calls they make when defending the nest, so I am hoping this is the mate. Keeping my fingers crossed here! And I still can't post a screen shot. It keeps on saying it's a bad request. Darn it.

I posted a picture on the Facebook osprey cam page, have no trouble posting pictures there, but can't figure out why I can't post them here! Mare
