Love the close up view of the Cooper's, Ostrich; what a bonus to get the nest & hawklets, as well.

I'm looking forward to your 2013 season. Clapping

I am hopeful txelements - they ended up fledging all 3 of the hawklets successfully last season, and they have been back in the park again the last several weeks, I have been able to observe courtship behaviors and copulation, so there seems to be a good chance they will breed in the park again this season. Last year it was the beginning of May until they seemed to lay though, so I'm expecting we may not see any definite sign whether they're going to or not for a while yet.

The last couple of days I have been seeing the female Coopers up in the nest and poking around in the bowl and sometimes sitting down and moving around. I suspect she hasn't laid any eggs yet and doesn't seem to really be incubating yet, but she is probably preparing the nest bowl for eggs. I'm hopeful that eggs will be coming soon.

I am happy to report that my Coopers pair have eggs and are incubating - I estimate they started hard incubation around Apr 25, but it's possible that she started laying a clutch prior to that.

More good news - there appears to have been at least one hatch. Any hawklet(s) are still too small to be seen over the rim of the bowl, but I have seen the female pulling at prey and offering down into the bowl. I think there was at least a hatch on Monday, but possibly could have been before that.

Oh how wonderful Ian! I look forward to your pix. I miss the nest we had on the green a half block away from my house.
