Hey gd, nice catch of the banded adult. I'm hoping the one I spotted at Chaster Beach here is the nest adult as well. I hope you let DH know. He wants information regarding any banded eagle, esp pics of the band. You got a good one. Hopefully numbers might come up on enlargement. Send the original high resolution that he can work with at his end.

gd Left thumb up, great photo of the banded eagle. I forwarded a link to your post to Karen to let her know and asked that she pass the information on to David. He gets so many emails and this way Karen will make sure he sees it. I also sent a note to Bev Day so she can have a look as well. The eaglet that was rescued by O.W.L. last week will also be banded before it is released. I zoomed in on your photo but could not read anything identifiable on the band A deep sigh ,maybe Bev or David can get it clearer.

Again, great shot!

eta ........ As there are only a few pages in this thread I decided to go back and quickly read over the posts and look at the photos posted. There are some other photos that also show a band on one of the adults, as well as mention that the male may have been "tagged" at one time Chin.

Hey folks,

the male at the Jericho nest is banded and tagged. David knows about it, he said its an old band. the tag is very difficult to read the number, I think someone managed to get it on a windy day a couple of years ago but it was some old style that is not kept in any database anymore.

that was a long time ago though, I might not be remembering what was said properly.

Hi everyone! I think this story from the Vancouver Courier is about these eagles - and it sounds as if they may have a nice new home for the upcoming nesting season! I'm just going to post a couple of excerpts from the article - and a picture - please click the link at the bottom to read the whole story and see a larger version of the picture.

Residents help bald eagle couple nest in Vancouver

Eagles live among cottonwoods in West Point Grey

By Sandra Thomas, Vancouver Courier November 16, 2011

"If you build it, they will come.

That's the hope of a group of volunteers from West Point Grey determined to help a pair of bald eagles they describe as "architecturally challenged."

The volunteers, spearheaded by West Point Grey resident Corby Stanley, enlisted the help of the park board to create a nesting platform for the pair, dubbed Ethel and Bert. The volunteers, including West Point Grey residents Ron Gruber, Brian Whittingham and Marian Coope, went out on a limb to help after watching the eagle pair's nest disintegrate year after year, leaving their eaglets stranded in trees or in need of rescue from the ground."

...

"Consulting on the project is noted eagle expert David Hancock, famous for using web cameras to capture adult birds and their hatchlings in their nests."

Good look to Ethel and Bert - and thanks to everyone who helped with this project!

Hey folks,

here's a video of the Jericho nest site from just a week ago . . .

I was sure to include a shot of the incredible sturdy looking (and quite bright! reflective) platform.

Thanks to Martin Passchier for supplying this picture of the Jericho nest. It confirms that indeed the eagles are using the platform supported nest, contrary to what some of the detractors of shoring up this nest had told us. David Hancock designed the platform but he had no idea the builders were going to make it out of metal instead of wood. At least it has not kept Ma and Pa Jericho away.

forgot to mention that I went for a walk on Friday June1 and saw one of the adults on a babysitting branch right above the platform nest. Looked and looked but didn't see any wingflaps or heads poking up. I will try to get there again this week with my camera. I did see a lovely juvie fly by when I was on the nearby beach
