An amazing sighting today! We had to leave old Border Collie at the vet in Sechelt so headed to Kinnikinnick nest site in perfect timing to witness an adult eagle swoop down over a gaggle of Canada Geese in the field across the road from the nest. It attacked them from above until they all flew out of the area. In all the hoopla we missed the actual takedown but then the eagle looked to be trying to attack another bird above the field, landed in the top of a nearby tree. We were distracted by 4 dogs off leash coming toward us off the trail from the forest. On looking for the eagle in the tree again, it was gone. Then we spotted an eagle in the field, on the ground, plucking and eating something significantly large for 45 min. Had to leave to pick up old dog but returned to find the carcass gone! In the nest I hope or carried away by someting else? That's what we wanted to see. As well, 2 ravens boldly landed and shared sparingly while the eagle was eating, after it had had a good half hour of food. They were still there eating bits when we returned. Then we spied both adults in trees, at the perimeter of the field. One had wings hanging, either wet from the rain falling while in the field or just too fat from ingesting a goose to get them up over the back! LOL
Problem is, there seemed to be 3 adults in the area. Two or 4 is good, not 3.
On leaving a coyote honoured us with crossing of the road right in front of us. A beautiful coat, wonderful couple of hours!
Since we didn't see the eagle land to eat the goose, I'm wondering if Dad would have taken it down for Mom and left it for her to attack, too heavy to deliver or who did what. As much as I love dogs, darn them.

Hi Pat and Kay thanks for your comments about the pics - found out that we can buy an attachment for the camera to be mounted to the telescope - that will save me from balancing on the stoolWhistling.

Sounds like you had a very exciting day today Sandra. We've seen a lot of action here over the years but nothing like that! How is Simon?

Looking out of our living room window yesterday we saw several eagles flying around. In the morning we saw two chasing away another eagle and in the afternoon we saw two swooping down almost to the ground but couldn't see what they were after. We also saw a hawk in our Japanese cherry tree but it took off before I could take a picture.Sad

Nice picture Marg. We drove to Sechelt today and also saw many eagles flying around enroute. Juvie in a tree right in Davis Bay on the highway. We stopped in the parking lot at the Lighthouse in perfect time to see both adults fly out of a tree beside the tree you got the pic of. They flew across the water, over the beach so we determined they were heading for the dump. Haven't seen both at once since Oct. so glad to see both today. We scanned all trees with binocs to no avail looking for a nest.
Then up to Kinnikinnick to find an adult at the top of the tree it was in when we visited with youl. Looked like Pa. David and I both feel the eagle we saw go after the gaggle of Canada Geese looked smaller than the eagle eating there Sat. I guess that question will never be answered.

Let's hope so Marg! Driving about yesterday I noticed a few single eagles flying around which made me wonder if egg laying had started. Perhaps your Stalashen pa was one of them! Clapping

Oh, how eggsiting- an egg here and at Sidney and all the other nests around- Pelican Harbor (Calif.), Blackwater; Norfolk; NCTC; etc.

I'll bet Earl could build a wide sturdy wooden step stool/short bench to ensure that you are safe, Marg! Or is that what you have? Titter Chin

LOL Cool  Grin
