|Description:||Aboriginal people come together to celebrate their culture in Alert Bay and are welcoming visitors to their Sports Day Celebrations, held on Father's Day each year. This event brings together First Nations people to celebrate, experience and share their traditions in art, culture, values and spirituality.
The event provides a wonderful opportunity to become better acquainted with the cultural diversity of First Nations peoples, and celebrate their significant contributions to society.
The Alert Bay sporting event draws thousands of First Nation's people from around North America. The participants in this event present and showcase both high caliber professional as well as talented “entry level” athletes, performers, artists and crafters. The event is reknowned for preparing outstanding traditional salmon barbecue with fry bread.
These sporting events are important for First Nations to meet each other, share stories & reconnect with other's families and are a traditional place of meeting and marrying. The athletes are highly respected for their strength and year round commitment to prepare physically, spiritually, mentally and emothionally to compete in this high-calibre competition.
