the first time in the history of the metropark that a bald eagle has been born there.

The eagle has landed.  And this time, it is staying and raising a family.

For the first time in the history of Stony Creek Metropark, a time period dating back a half a century, a mating pair of bald eagles has decided to nest in the park and has successfully produced offspring.

A combination of park records, seasonal bird counts and aerial and ground observation dating back to 1962 indicate a nesting bald eagle pair has never existed in the park, which was established in 1964.

The remarkable discovery is a testament to a variety of factors, including greater protections for America’s national symbol, better water quality and better habitat management.
