The Save the Cams Campaign
Hi everyone! I'm posting here because I need a bit of help. I really hate fundraising - it's right up there with root canals - but like root canals, it's important. And it's never been more important than it is this year.
This is Hancock Wildlife's 10th year of providing a number of cameras - and a forum where we could all learn about eagles and the other wildlife we were watching. And usually around now we'd be asking for your support so we could replace a few of our older cameras and do some maintenance at the various nest sites where we have cams.
This year is different.
We need to raise at least $10,000 and probably closer to $20,000 by the end of June just to keep the cameras running until the eaglets fledge. This includes ongoing tech support costs of about $3500/month, plus a number of bills that are past due.
Unless we can find someone with vision and energy to play a much larger role in our fundraising efforts, I don't see how we can go forward after this season. And quite honestly I'm not at all sure that we'll be able to keep all the cams running through August, when the eagles typically leave for the salmon runs - but I'm going to do my level best to make that happen. And I need your help.
Last year we raised $5000 from nest adoptions. This year we have 10 adoptions so far, so our total so far for this year is $2500 - which is half of what we got last year.
We'll also be doing a matching drive soon - that raised over $4000 last year, and I know there are some people who wait for that so their donation can be doubled. And I'm looking for additional partners for that.
As some of you may know, David Hancock is not just the name at the top of the page - he has given and continues to give a huge amount of time and energy to make this happen, and every year he has dipped into his own pockets to cover expenses. That's not an option this year. And we don't have a university or large corporation behind us like some other sites do - and quite frankly, we're not that good at asking for money.
I'm asking now.
Wednesday, June 10, is the best day to make a donation using our 800 number, so the matching drive will start Tuesday evening, June 9, and run through Wednesday and probably Thursday - though please - if you want to call in your donation, do it on Wednesday.
We're encouraging people to use CanadaHelps to make their donations - you'll get an official Canadian tax receipt almost instantly, and it saves HWF valuable time and resources. You don't need to be in Canada to use CanadaHelps - just get out your credit card and click the blue button:
And you can also use our other Easy Ways to Donate.
Thank you all, for all you do!
