Wisconsin's population of bald eagles is soaring, and state officials said this week that eagles are occupying nests in nearly every county of the state.

This year's eagle population — measured by the number of known nesting pairs — is expected to top the record of 1,337 pairs of birds last year, according to the Department of Natural Resources.

This is the 41st year that Wisconsin has conducted an annual eagle count — the longest such ongoing count in the country.
