((ON each route you have to either get a flight to or from Anchorage (connected to Whittier port via train or bus) but this allows a tour of nearby Denali National Park or ???))
I will be again acting as naturalist for Princess Cruises, this year on the Diamond Princess – for 7 trips. If any of you want to experience the wonders of Alaska this is the most incredible way to do it. This routing which goes 1 week either north from Vancouver or returning south from Whittier gives the best coverage of Alaska’s inside waters and the incredible glacier fields of the College Fjord. The trip this year is incredibly economical if you book quickly to take advantage of the last minute specials. However, this routing is a little more costly in that you have to get back from Whittier or get there to start the trip. Nevertheless this does allow you to do the side trip to Denali Park or elsewhere – either with the tour operators or on your own. Or do the trip on the Diamond both ways as some of our HWF members are doing again this season. This is a once-in-a-life-time experience. How thankful I am to do it almost annually since 1964 either by land or cruise ship.
Any of you with the time and the desire to see the beauty and wildlife wealth of Alaska should consider this trip. I will be the general naturalist but free to do what I like on the shore days. My shipboard role is to deliver a series of Power Point talks and “talk from the bridge” when we encounter interesting wildlife or history. For me this is a job made in heaven. Guess what we see most of – even more than whales?? – yes EAGLES!!
One of my shore trips will be from Skagway to Haines on the Highspeed vessel so I get to spend the whole day at the American Bald Eagle Foundation Museum, check out the famous Chilkat River and check in on the eagles CAM we will have running on the Haines eagle nest again this year.
This tour is not being sponsored by the Hancock Wildlife Foundation. I am simply the biologist / naturalist for Princess but I love to promote this incredible experience so they get this free advertising. If I hear some of you are able to make any of these 7 trips I would be happy to meet with you and make special shore excursion recommendations.
If you decide to go please email Karen at firstname.lastname@example.org for more info.
Happy Sailing -- see you aboard.
