SCOTTS VALLEY -- Patriots and bird lovers, rejoice.

Just a few weeks before Independence Day, a Scotts Valley resident has made a rare sighting of an American bald eagle.

Michael Boyd was leaving his Bean Creek Road home early Monday morning when he noticed a noisy cluster of black crows swarming half way up a Ponderosa Pine. At the center of the crows, Boyd spotted the eagle with its gleaming white head and glistening black feathers.

A longtime bird enthusiast, Boyd grabbed his camera and zoom lens.
