First flights still a few weeks away for Redding's young eagles

Eaglets sit in their nest Monday at the Turtle Bay Exploration Park.

Stretching their wings in their shaded nest Monday, the Turtle Bay eaglets are prepping for flight.

But it will be a while before they take off.

Bald eagle experts said it likely will be another two to three weeks, if not longer, before the trio of young eagles fledge. That doesn't mean there won't be plenty for loyal eagle cam viewers to watch until then.

"They'll get out of the nest and stand on branches near the nest," said Bruce Deuel, a retired state Department of Fish and Game biologist.
